![]() When I need to know what my timing is, I am able to move the dial until the pointer lines up with the TDC line and then read the degrees of advance on the dial - very precise. With the dial feature, I set it to 15 and then adjust the dizzy until the pointer lines up with the TDC line. I live at ft of altitude and find that my FJ40 runs best between 14-16 degrees of advance. I have a "mid-level" timing light and find the advance feature is very nice. That said, it works very well when tuning to see the RPM at idle and at high idle when the carb is choked. A multi-meter does voltage, resistance and load so I'm in the habit of using the multi-meter instead. The HEI ignition system does not use points, so the dwell function is not something you need. It is a combination meter that can also be used to check dwell (for points type ignition systems) and voltage. When I need to check my RPM, I use the Actron CP7605 meter. I don't have a tachometer installed in my rig, nor do I have a "high level" timing light. "High Level" - Mid level plus a tachometer feature. "Mid Level" - Entry level plus an advance feature."Entry Level" - Flash each time the cylinder fires, $30.From what I have seen there are basically three levels of timing lights in all the parts stores ( always adjust/tune up when engine is at operating temp )Ģ) what is your point gap set to? how are the points?Ĥ) what did you adjust your valve gap out for intake and exhaust?ĥ) check your spark plug gaps, what are they>?Ħ) did you mention what year your fj40 is and what type of motor? f 2f?Ī timing light may also include a feature to show RPM. You should not need to screw it in much from all the way out to get that. Make sure to set your timing when the engine is at 650 rpms based of the idle adjustment screw. I would run through this list and compare the specs to the FSM for your engine.ġ) What is your timing set at? ( ball bearing at the needle is 7 degrees before top dead center ) A little more advance can yield better vacuum I would adjust the point gaps, timing and check your dwell and spark plug gaps are all in factory spec. You think you might have a slight vacuum leak some where? (base of carb etc ) My vacuum is about 19-20 inches of mercury. My plugs look about like yours acceptable etc. ![]() No portion of this warranty may be copied or duplicated without the expressed written permission from Equus. My stock aislin idle fuel mixture screw is out about 3.5 to 4 turns as well.įreshly rebuilt f135, I think my compression test from the shop showed about 177 across all cylinders for compression. Ted Greene: Sound, Time, and Unlimited Possibility, by guitarist Terrence McManus, published in 2015, is the most complete analysis of Greene's work that exists. Guitarist Steve Vai has praised Greene's musical knowledge and perceptiveness on Solo Guitar, stating that Greene "is totally in touch with the potential of harmonic constructions" which allows him to create an "organic and inspired listening delight." In a 1982 discussion with Robert Fripp, John McLaughlin described Greene as "really unbelievable", noting that "it's so difficult to move around on a guitar in the harmonic way one can do on a keyboard. He's the only guitar player who accomplishes this thing that really turns me on." The album contains no overdubbing (recording on multiple tracks).Īlthough not well known to the public, Greene was respected by guitarists. ![]() Greene recorded one album, Solo Guitar, which was produced by William Perry and Leon White, and released in 1977 on PMP Records. He used a large variety of chord voicings, often creating the effect of two simultaneous players. Greene used counterpoint to improvise in a variety of styles, playing, for instance, a jazz standard such as Autumn Leaves in Baroque style. Other notable techniques included playing songs with a walking bass line with simultaneous melodies. His playing style included techniques such as harp-like arpeggios combined with gentle, tasteful neck vibrato, creating a "shimmer" to his sound. He wrote four books on the subject of jazz guitar performance and theory: Chord Chemistry, Modern Chord Progressions: Jazz and Classical Voicings for Guitar, and the two-volume Jazz Guitar: Single Note Soloing. While he was a sought-after session musician, he derived much of his income from tutoring. Greene typically worked as a vocal accompanist, which he preferred because he found group settings restrictive. He would also make occasional live appearances at clubs in the San Fernando Valley, usually playing a Fender Telecaster. Bach would be re-written for guitar with useful analysis applicable to any musical setting. For example, many transcriptions of the chorales of J. A voracious reader of almost any book on music theory, especially from the common practice period (circa 1600–1900) he distilled complex concepts regarding the structure of western music and would write out more accessible versions for students to understand (handed out to students in the form of lesson "sheets"), often applying keyboard concepts to the guitar. He was known to guitarists for his role as a music educator, which included private teaching, seminars at the Guitar Institute of Technology, columns for Guitar Player magazine, and his instructional books on harmony, chord melody, and single-note soloing. He was again called on in 1977 to provide guitar tablature for three arrangements of Bix Beiderbecke's piano music for the Ry Cooder album Jazz, which Byrd arranged and produced.Īlthough Greene is often regarded as a jazz musician, he played many musical styles. During the late 1960s and early 1970s he did commercial studio work with Byrd. He was a friend and collaborator with Joseph Byrd, on whose Columbia Masterworks album The American Metaphysical Circus he was featured (he also provided the whimsical name of the studio band who performed it, "The Field Hippies"). In the 1960s he was a member of the rock band Natural Selection and a blues rock group called Bluesberry Jam, which included future Canned Heat drummer Fito de la Parra. He briefly studied accounting at California State University, Northridge, but dropped out to devote his time to music. Greene began his own guitar studies at the age of 11, and was an accomplished player while still in high school, occasionally collaborating with local rock and R&B bands. ![]() ![]() Theodore Greene (Septem– July 23, 2005) was an American fingerstyle jazz guitarist, columnist, session musician and educator in Encino, California. ![]() What’s the Best Nail Length for Fingernails? In that case, you can extend the nail length by several millimeters or a few inches. But you can equally rock longer nails, especially when wearing acrylics. Most people trim their nails a millimeter or two from the fingertip to make it easier to unzip bags, text, wash the dishes, eat, etc. It’s measured in millimeters and varies from one person to the next.
